Treeman conversion for Blood Bowl

Build a new custom Treeman miniature for Wood Elf team. Lip base with magnet to show extra skills like Guard.

Start of the build was cutting of right arm from this plastic D&D figure. Most of the Big Guy miniatures have the disadvantage of being somewhat top heavy and tend to fall down a lot unintentionally during the gameplay. With this light weight plastic core even quite tall Treeman stays upright.

Some wire for the hands skeleton structure, found Ogre Kingdoms loose head in the bit box and Secret Weapon resin base with with something that might transform itself to a tree stump.

Greenstuff rope to give better grip for Milliput arms and filled some holes with the same stuff. Added hair around the Ogre head and some extra beard to hide the wire attachment.

Terracotta Milliput arms in place and few ink washes with dark brown. The lip base is magnetized for marking extra skills and giving better balance for the miniature.

The same lip base can used for the Take Root alternative miniature to show when the Treeman is stationary.

Warhammer Saurus to BB Kroxigor

Closeup of the skull detail.

Green stuff sculpt of the left hand and skull detail on the base.
First a layer of Milliput Terracotta to the hand and base.
The modified right hand is glued in place and pinned with the same metal wire that servers as skeleton for the left hand sculpt.
Copper base, magnet and head attached. Had the idea of putting magnet to the base - with that could attach the metal Bone-head marker to the figure, when it looses Tackle Zones it's easy to forget. Starting ideas: something to stand as Lizardman and Slann big guy - Kroxigor. Have noted that too large Big Guy models just take up too much space on the pitch, especially when prone. So, this time around Saurus Lord could do the trick just nicely. Loose the weapon from the right and make new left hand from scratch cos removing the shield would be too cumbersome.

The Mighty Zug - Sculpt

Undercoat with Valejo white, Green stuff parts still looking bit darker.

After some time when the milliput has set, adding more detail with Green stuff. Basing with Citadel Texture Astrogranite paint.

Some more detail with Milliput, knee pads and the like.

First very crude layer on Super Fine White Milliput.

Basic pose with wire and first layer of Green stuff - this putty has better "sticky" quality than Milliput so it has good grip even on metal.

Citadel Texture Astrogranite

Astro dried really fast - comparing to milliput or green stuff at least. With some ink and dry brushing you have quick and dirty kind of basing in no time. Applying with palette knife, brush just seems too flimsy to move this stuff around. It fills nicely those kinda big cracks too. I have used green stuff and milliput for basing, but these texture paints might just do the trick without mixing and waiting. The stuff is kinda heavy set and grainy. First impression. New sealing method of jars: little plastic strings break with ease. Ok, the name brings back lots of good memories from 2nd edition Blood Bowl... The polycarbonate field was called Astrogranite. So had to try out this new paint product from GW.

Bossk - Sculpt

After the Milliput was dry: added the lizard skin parts with Green Stuff and fastened the model sprue bits with wire that goes thru the legs.

Basic sculpt with Milliput Superfine White, with some added details from left over model kit sprue.

Han Solo Hoth - Belt

Pinning some wire to keep the balance - nobody likes top heavy figures. Ooh, but that terracotta Milliput looks a bit like Han could change the underwear...
Soft plastic of Galactic Heroes makes it easy to harvest even some of the smaller details. And in the old Kenner line Han had a holster - must have it in the soccer field too.

Han Solo Hoth - Sculpting start

Some pockets sculpted on the front and on the sleeves.
Pressing the Milliput hard to hit every crevice for added damage resistance.
To make the surface ready for Terracotta Milliput I scratched it with saw.

Minotaur - Sculpting

After White Milliput was fully set, I made some fur textures and armor details with Green stuff.

Allowed the brown Milliput to dry, then continued with Superfine White. Also pinned some extra plastic spikes to the shoulder pad and the anvil. Used the same arrow form in headgear armor that used in making of Bull Centaurs.

Started the sculpt with some Milliput Terracotta. Secured the wire to base with the same stuff.

One of the early ideas was making the helmet look like team symbol Red Anvil. Here the basic anvil form is seen next to the orc: piece of insulation foam glued to the top of the head.

Pinned the orc head with wire - later adding there some vertebrae still hanging from the neck.

Gamorrean Guard - Legs

Sculpting done.

Same material is used to fill the gap on back.

Following the same color logic: Terracotta Milliput for pants.

Some final sculpting with blade.

When Green stuff is sculpted with fingers it makes nice skin texture almost automatically - and green being the skin color of the guard its perfect material for the top layer.

White Superfine Milliput to build the legs - knowing that the football is gonna take heavy toll on these lower parts - it is nice to have the final color on the socks so tear and wear dont look so bad.
